Instructions for Clear Retainers
Wear
Wear your retainers full-time (or night-time only, as instructed).
Consistency is key to preventing teeth from shifting.
Cleaning
Brush gently with a separate toothbrush and dishwashing liquid. Rinse with cool water.
Soak in a retainer cleaner weekly.
Avoid hot water and harsh chemicals.
Storage
Always store in a case when not in use.
Keep away from pets (they love to chew them!)
Replacement
Retainers can wear out over time—contact us for replacements if they crack or no longer fit well.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR FIXED RETAINERS
What is a Fixed Retainer?
A fixed retainer is a thin wire bonded to the back of your front teeth to help keep them aligned.
Care Instructions
Do not bite into hard foods such as apples, carrots, crusty bread or ice—cut them into small pieces and chew with your back teeth.
Avoid sticky or chewy foods (e.g. toffee, chewing gum) that can dislodge the wire.
Brush around the retainer carefully, especially near the gumline.
Use superfloss or interdental brushes daily to clean under the wire and between teeth.
What to Watch For
If the wire feels loose or if any glue has come off, contact us to repair it.
Do not try to remove or adjust the wire yourself.
Long-Term Maintenance
Continue routine dental check-ups and hygiene cleans every 6-12 months to monitor the area.
Even with a fixed retainer, wearing your clear retainer as instructed (usually at night) is recommended for added stability.
